Just got the crow 4k like it better now and it looks good 4k Bitrate and good extras with the creator true story the movie is based on
I think Jim never took the mask off he’s got serious TDS now
Og clash of the titan effects way more real than the new one
These people must be miserable not watching movies just all the useless numbers
I'd like to see a discussion on Once Upon a Time in The West. It looks unusual. Not like flim and not like video. People seem to have a dark halo around tham that to me looks like heavy ambient occlusion found in video games. It's very noticeable in the scenes where Jason Robards rescues Charles Bronson on the train. Every time he passes a window there is a dark shadow flowing him. I never noticed it on the bluray. At times the movie looks great. At other times it looks like it has been processed somehow. I was expecting to see some grain, but there's hardly any, but to be honest, even the dvd looked really sharp and clean. Now, this 4k, it doesn't look natural at times, and that is distracting. What's wrong with it?
The problem with Frozen Empire is that is sucks sucks sucks.
Yup fun fact avid came along in the 80’s to help with editing it got better as it went along but those great movies we love from 80’s yup 2k resolution put back to film. That’s what’s great about today’s reissues a lot can get actual negative and get fresh scan.
Imagine a physical disc with 200 000 GB storage capacity. The youtube channel Coldfusion just released a new video on 1 July 2024 discussing this disc. It's exciting.
shawshank redemption and pulp fiction..2 of the best movies ever made....in my opinion.
hard to argue against that!
Even 1080p bluray of digitally shot movies are pretty darn good.
agreed!
Great video, Chase!
Thanks Frank! Saw your video on Ghostbusters, agree on those FX! The digital with the 4k kinda makes them look odd - they stand out too much!
94 certainly has some good ones, including 3 from my top 20 favourite films, including my number one. These are my top ten of the year: 10 Zero Tolerance 9 Naked Gun 33 1/3 8 Beverly Hills Cop 3 7 Death Wish 5 6 Timecop 5 Wes Craven's New Nightmare 4 The Getaway 3 Star Trek: Generations 2 Speed 1 Pulp Fiction
Ive been seeing Pulp Fiction at the top of a lot of lists in the replies! I do love me some Tarantino!
I only first watched Pulp Fiction in January this year, i've watched it a few times since then. It instantly took over from Halloween as my favourite movie. I'd seen a few Tarantino's about 20 years earlier in my early 20's and wasn't a fan, re-watched them after this and loved them. Now there are only two Tarantino films i haven't yet seen but plan to, Django Unchained, and The Hateful Eight.
Excellent commentary!!!... tiktoker G.A.TURKS
Thank you!!
This was very well explained and I understood everything you said. A few years ago, I bought the US blu-rays of 'Braveheart', 'Gladiator' and 'Road To Perdition' to replace my UK discs because the US discs have considerably higher bitrates the the UK ones. And I recently did the same with 'Minority Report'. Actually, 'Minority Report' UK version is one disc with special features on it, but the US one is two discs, with the Special Features on their own disc, giving the film "more room to breath", and the UK bitrate is 19MBPS whilst the US one is 37MBPS. Hopefully the double dipping has not just been a waste of money.
Shhh, you will upset the Grain Gods and their devout disciples. But with seriousness, I appreciate you sharing your knowledge on the topic.
LOL! thank you! as I mentioned to someone else, I by no means know it all, but I have worked in the business for a good long while -so if I can help pass on what I know, I will!
Discussions of transfers in youtube reviews are generally bad. They vary from, "best it's ever looked," to just incorrect information altogether. I feel like there's a huge hole on UA-cam for people doing informed transfer and color grading reviews. I'd be interested to see more videos like this from you or really anyone. What we have now is just a bunch of people talking out of their rears and shills with affiliate links that just sell hype.
thank you! not to call anyone out or set myself above anyone on youtube, but I kinda keep noticing some things that are pretty consistently similiar and sometimes similarly incorrect or mistaken when it comes to 4k reviews...so I try to set my "fan hat" aside and put on my "filmmaker" hat and kind of talk about those things in conversational terms where they dont get overly techincal...I by no means know it all, but I have worked in the business for a good long while -so if I can help pass on what I know, I will!
I’m trying to pay attention but distracted by the gun show on display 💪🏻
LOL try to contain the excitment hahahahahahaha
@@AVAPopCulture 🤣Did someone really say this cam from a DI negative? 🤣🤣 one thing you forgot to mention, when its shot at 4.5k (4448x3096) & scaled down to 4k (3840 x 2160), it actually enhances the image
@@thelastmoviestanding yeah...I literally heard someone saying "this was finished and output to 4k from a 2k digital intermediate" 😳
@@AVAPopCulture where that Will Ferrell meme from wedding crashers when you need it ... "IDIOT!!" 🤣
@@thelastmoviestanding 🤣😂
Great video nice to have a technical reason behind it
thanks man! I appreciate that! just trying to give some context from my experience
let's do it!
Have you seen a #4kReview of #GhostbustersFrozenEmpire or other digitally shot movies? If so, they may be steering you wrong! So, pop that tape in, I got you, let's go do this!
Before I watch your top 25, i'll give my top ten: 10 Witness 9 Friday The 13th Part 5: A New Beginning 8 Howling 2: My Sister Is A Werewolf 7 Into The Night 6 Return Of The Living Dead 5 Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment 4 A View To A Kill 3 Re-Animator 2 Clue 1 Death Wish 3
good movies, but ours will be different lol!! 85 is a deep year!
It would be boring if we all liked the same things.
@@jonbolton3376 absolutely!! though, I do love most of those movies you listed! just narrowing it down to 25 was super hard
Yo! Thanks for shout out! 1994 was a great year as I was in college and thriving. And by thriving I mean partying without a care in the world 😂 I think for me it’s probably a 3 way tie with Pulp Fiction, Forrest Gump and The Crow. Shawshank is probably the best film of them all but those three were really impactful back then. And those three all had legendary soundtracks as well
for sure man! and yeah 1994 had some heavy hitters towards the top...not sure if it has the same depth strength of the 1984 and 1985 years Ive done so far in this series...but still some good films!
Great list. 84 is one of my favourite years for films. My top 15 are: 15 C.H.U.D. 14 Invitation To Hell 13 The Philadelphia Experiment 12 Best Defence 11 Too Scared To Scream 10 Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom 9 Silent Night, Deadly Night 8 The Terminator 7 Pieces 6 Alley Cat 5 A Nightmare On Elm Street 4 The Evil That Men Do 3 Star Trek 3: The Search For Spock 2 Police Academy 1 Beverly Hills Cop
Even though I only listed my top 15, Ghoulies and Children Of The Corn made my top 20.
Although a bit confusing, Videodrome is very enjoyable for me. As you previously stated, every time I watch it, I get something new and different out of it. Also, Debbie Harry is absolutely stunning in this film.
I know I'm late to the party. I think a great dinner and a movie would be a big, ol steak watching The Great Outdoors, lol
that one could be fun to do in this series!
One of my favorites from 94 would have to be The Shadow
good movie!
I agree tops do change, not for any real reason, you still love the film, but for no reason you love others more at that moment. I've had a top 300 for a couple of years, i'm always changing things around, and obviously adding new (new to me) films. My top 25 at this moment are: 25 The Towering Inferno 1974 24 It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World 1963 23 Foul Play 1978 22 Carry On Abroad 1972 21 The Excorcist 3 1990 20 Police Academy 1984 19 The Negotiator 1998 18 Road Trip 2000 17 Speed 1994 16 Red 2010 15 Final Destination 2 2003 14 The Omen 1976 13 Star Trek: Generations 1994 12 Lethal Weapon 2 1989 11 Dirty Harry 1971 10 Halloween Kills 2021 9 Scream 1996 8 Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country 1991 7 Love Actually 2003 6 Die Hard 1988 5 Beverly Hills Cop 1984 4 A Fish Called Wanda 1988 3 Damien: Omen 2 1978 2 Halloween 1978 1 Pulp Fiction 1994
changes defintely can happen as we change and experience other movies etc etc...so many factors in play and that adds to the difficulty in making a list like this!!
I’m going to automatically say 1982 (I’m biased )without watching this yet, but I’ll hear you out 😂 I felt the same about Natural Born Killers I saw it back in the 90s willing to rewatch just not for me. Flintstones was great back then Halle Berry 🥵 just a staple to this day. I need to get The Chase thanks for reminding me. I watched Interview with a Vampire more times than I can remember. Legends of the Fall is such a good film and nice 4k restoration. I’m in the minority but I hate Forrest Gump. Great list some of my favorites
1982 and 1987 may be the next videos up in this series lol
@@AVAPopCulture the 80s had some great ones
@@80sMadeConsumer as a decade, I think it wins hands down!

While the premise was derivative of the early 90s “Die Hard on a …” action subgenre, writing teachers now point to “Speed” as maybe one of the best action screenplays ever written. I remember I think hearing a podcast dissection, and the speaker pointed out that there is zero filler on that movie. Every scene and interaction between characters informs something that happens later.
Tombstone came out on Christmas of ‘93, so most of its theatrical run was in ‘94. Truthfully the release was moved up a few months to get it out before Costner’s Wyatt Earp.
I heard all about that release being moved etc from Marty Kove who played in Wyatt Earp...once I got to be friends with him after he did my movie, I got to hear some great stories! Jurrasic Park was a summer release though and it was still riding the waves in 94 at the box office...I think that is same with cool Runnings and 3 musketeers which also appear in 94s box office
@@AVAPopCulture well, 90s had second run and dollar theaters. Since most flicks wouldn’t come out on video for 6 months to a year later, even flops would find a home on at least a couple of screens.
@bobcobb3654 oh trust me, I'm in my mid 40s. I remember the dollar theaters lol....I think when I was looking. JURRASIC PARK was like 15th in the 1994 box office despite coming out a in summer of 93...just points to how huge of a movie that was! Studios would do well to leave movies at the theater and have that long 6-9 month stretch after the theater release before hitting home theater sales in my opinion
Man 1994 was definitely a big year for movies, love your list, there is so much to choose from...Some.other great ones from 1994 that i love that werent listed are Dumb and Dumber, The Specialist, City Slickers 2, Richie Rich, Surviving The Game, Beverly Hills Cop 3, Major League 2, Chasers, Clear and Present Danger, Terminal Velocity, Drop Zone, Blown Away, The Getaway, The Shadow, Trapped In Paradise, Disclosure, Little Big League, The Puppet Masters, The Paper, Greedy, Cops and Robbersons, Blue Chips, Mighty Ducks 2, On Deadly Ground, The Hudsucker Proxy, It Could Happen To You, Guarding Tess, With Honors, The Little Rascals
A real big year! I'm still not convinced it beats 84 and 85 but we will see how it all shakes out in the final video once we make it through all of the years in this series!
No love for the Drunken Master 2?
Lol gotta get down to 25 somehow!
I thought you would mention the movie written on your hat. That's at least one of the top 10 movies of 1984.
My hat is return of the living dead! It came out in 1985 or it would have made the list!! It is in my 1985 list!!!
@@AVAPopCulture Oh, I thought it was referencing the 1984 John Carpenter movie, Starman.
@user-ed4fv9nd3b hahaha I thought you might think that after I replied! It says "Tarman" from Return of the living dead 😁
Yes I have seen all but two of those, and I absolutely love moving violations, was glad to finally find it on DVD, but I still have it on VHS lol. I have not seen quarterback princess, or forsaken but I do know of it.
I got at least 2 you hadn't seen! It is hard to do a full list without having anybody out there not see all of them!
@@AVAPopCulture oh I know lol 👍
No way, can't believe you chose Silver Bullet as number one. I thought I was the only one.
I love Silver Bullet!!!
1999 is my fav. I have about 150 movies from that year.
1999 is probably going to be one of the years I cover in this series!
My top films from 1994 1. The Shawshank Redemption 2. Leon 3. The Lion King 4. True Lies 5. Shallow Grave
Lion King would be very high on my list if I was including animation for sure!!!
I had the same Interview with the Vampire dvd and I watched it after I watched a video on disk rot with certain WB films and mine had it where it would stop in a certain spot and wouldn't go on. So I ordered the blu ray of the film. Also I remember seeing Maverick in the theater and didn't even know who was in it till I seen Mel Gibson in the very first of the movie. I like it very much.
oh wow, Ive never had the disc rot issue...I need to upgrade it anyway though... Maverick is a lot of fun!
I agree with you about Natural Born Killers. I like the movie but it always make me uncomfortable. Not something I can watch more than once a decade or so. I traded my VHS of it to a friend for a copy of Heavy Metal years ago. (I'll likely add more to this as I watch the video but I want to get things down before I forget them lol) It's crazy that my two favorite Jim Carrey movies came out in the same year. The Mask is my favorite. It showcases his comedic ability perfectly. Ha, I remember renting Timecop and Stargate and watching them on the same night. I liked Stargate more, and the show is one of my favorite shows of all time. Oh yeah, I love New Nightmare. Movie didn't get the recognition it deserved at the time. True Lies! I saw that on vacation at a small two screen theater on Hilton Head Island in SC. I was 15 and that scene in the hotel room with Jamie Lee Curtis... I had seen her in so many movies before that and had no idea how attractive she actually was. I haven't gotten to it yet but since it isn't on the list yet it must be number one. Forrest Gump is probably my favorite movie of all time. I can't think of a film I like more.
Feel free to chat as you go! Yeah Natural born killers is a peice of cinema but not one I want to watch frequently
@@AVAPopCulture I'm done. Great video, man! It was a nice trip down memory lane.
@@ClellBiggs LOL glad you enjoyed it! I will have another year in this series here shortly!
Love your best movies by year, but would be cool if you show a picture of the movies on the screen. I'm just more of a visual person.
thank you so much! I will usually try to do something like that - a poster or video etc, but I got in late last night from out of town and wanted to get this video out and just didnt have the extra editing time!! next one I promise!!!!
I've not seen this film; But I have a video store down the street from me named "VideoDrome".
It is a crazy mind twister! Get ready to have to watch it multiple times once you start watching it lol
